Geneva Experience

On 9 May 2018 29 Checkers gymnasts and 24 accompanying coaches and parents travelled to Geneva for the GIAC 2018. With an early start from the gym on Wednesday morning, the first sight they had of their competition venue was that evening. 2 days of competing against Americans, Swiss, Italians, Israelis, French, Dutch and a couple of other clubs from the UK saw one of our pairs with a medal and all 3 of our possible qualifiers through to finals on Saturday earned us another medal. Our gymnasts did us so proud, especially as there had been last minute changes and, for many, this was the most high profile competition they had attended. Every single performance was fantastic and we even got to enjoy a day sight-seeing on the Sunday before arriving back at the gym at 2am Monday morning! A very tiring, but wonderful, club bonding experience where we made new friends from around the world.

In just under a month’s time, nearly 30 of our gymnasts will be jetting off to Geneva to participate in the 17th Geneva International Acro Cup. Fundraising has been going on for a few months and lots of hard work are now being put in on routines. We look forward to sharing lots of exciting news with you once our party depart on 9 May.
